U6 Mini Program (4 or 5 by Dec 31 of the current ski season)
The focus of U6 Mini GKHAT is to establish a foundation of strong skiing skills, teach young athletes how to ski safely on the mountain, ski as part of a group, and most importantly to have lots of FUN while exploring the mountain. We use a combination of all mountain and racing environments to develop skillful young skiers.
Through the season we host 2 GKHAT club race events which are a part of this program.
- Age Requirement:
- GKHAT Minis must be 4 or 5 by December 31 of the current ski season.
- Prerequisite:
- All Mini's must be able to link turns and stop, controlling speed confidently and independently on green and easy blue terrain (ex. easiest way down from Gondola) If previously in Ski School, relates to Level 2 complete, working into level 3. Our target skier:coach ratio is 4:1 or less.
- Tail Gunning Requirement:
- Each mini must have a parents/guardians volunteer to tail-gun with the Mini coach for 2 days during the season. Sign up sheets to select the day you will ski with your Mini's team will be made available prior to the start of the season.
- Weeks: 11 [This season we are able to offer an 11 week program!]
- Hours on Snow: 52
- Program Dates:
- Program Start Date: Starts half days Jan 2-3 and changes to full days Jan 30-31
- Program End Date: Program ends March 13-14
- Days of the Week:
- Can choose either the Saturday or Sunday program
- Daily Start/End Times:
- 9:00 am - 2:30 pm with a supervised break for lunch
- Location:
- Program based at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Start and End meeting location is at the GKHAT Yurt located behind the day lodge.
- Kicking Horse Hosted Race Events:
- Annual GKHAT Cookie Cup
- Annual club year-end Ski-tacular event
Cost: $750.00
Not included in Program Fees: Equipment, Lift passes/tickets, Race Entry fees/costs.
Additional Fees: BC Alpine fees (charged once per family and once per athlete)
